Thank you Jami, the tutorial helped me too.
If you weren't able to see how my site was ugly, it's because I removed the css code I had added.So now I followed the tutorial and everything is ok regarding the header image, except one thing: my blog title appears on top of the header image.
Any idea of what I should do ?
The other thing that I will want to do is to reduce the primary navbar width. That's what I was trying to do earlier, and as I said, the result wasn't good at all. Actually, it looked good on desktop, but awful on mobile, so I removed all the css I had added.
I'm going to see if I can find a way to do that.
vdesjardinsMemberSorry, I found the problem, it was a stupid path...
I had written this:add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'my_stylesheet' );
function my_stylesheet() {
wp_enqueue_style( 'custom-style', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/custom/404/main.css' );
}Instead of:
add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'my_stylesheet' );
function my_stylesheet() {
wp_enqueue_style( 'custom-style', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/custom/404/css/main.css' );
}That's when I wanted to add some javascript calls that I found the error...
vdesjardinsMemberWhat I mean is I'd like to create a template that already contains the HTML code of the page I want to create.
But after some research I found that it may not be necessary, as it seems that I can call some external css and javascript files with genesis.So what I'm trying to do now, is to call my css file, that I put into the child folder, /custom/404/main.css.
When I update my page and have a look at the HTML code, I can see that there's a call to the main.css file. But when I look at my page, I can see that the css is not applied.
This is the page:
http://www.clubwebmarketing.com/page-non-trouvee/For example, there a class called "left" that should be 400px wide, and as you can see, it's not the case !
Both left and right divs should be on the same line, and here they're one below the other...So it seems that the php code that I used to call my external css is ok, but for some reason, the css is not applied...
Any idea of what may be the problem ?
vdesjardinsMemberI see... thank you Brad.
Actually it displays the post titles, but also the date of the post, the print button (that I had added in my posts to let the user print more easily), the [...] and the comment link...
The [...] is ok, it's an invitation for the user to click to read the post, but I don't really like the comment link, nor the date of the post.
Let me show you how it's displayed:
http://screencast.com/t/EEo2ogooOzB
and i'd like something like that:
http://screencast.com/t/Bn29HefujXe
(with links instead of only post titles, you see?)
Do you think it's possible ? I thought I could write some code in a file somewhere, and it could work, but what I have in mind seems to be rather complicated to do ? What do you think Brad ?
vdesjardinsMemberHello Brad,
I carefully read the tutorial, but there are still things that aren' clear...
First of all, I downloaded the archives.php file from Brian Gardner's site, and if I understand well, it's a template file, right ?
So I should upload this file in my child them folder, is that correct ?
And then, I should create a page, based on that template ?
But that's not really what I want: because in this case, I would have to create a page for each catagory of y blog... and add these pages to my menu. That's not very practical.
Is it the only way to do that ? Isn't there a way to change the way category pages are displayed ?
When I go to the genesis theme settings, I only have 2 choices: display the entire post, or display a post excerpt. But that's not what I want...
I don't know if what I say is very clear... You know, I'm french, and my english is a little poor... Please tell me if it's not clear. And once again, thanks for helping me.
vdesjardinsMemberHello Brad and thank you for your answer.
I don't have any archive.php in the genesis folder, only page_archive.php.
What I'd like to do is when I click on the category link, instead of displaying either the post experts, or the entire posts, I'd like to display only the post titles.
I went to genesis theme settings in the admin, and I chose to have only the excerpts displayed, not the entire post. But that's not what I want.
I had a look at the page_archive.php and I don't see anything related to post excerpt, so I don't know what I should do to only display the titles.
And something else is bothering me: I guess I shouldn't change the code of the genesis theme, I think it would be better to make the changes on the child theme, but there's no page.php nor page_archive.php.
Could you please tell me what to do ? It would be very kind...
vdesjardinsMemberHello,
Sure I can:

In the meantime, I understood how I could display excerpts instead of the entire post, but I still can't find out where the category file template is located.
vdesjardinsMemberIsn't there anybody who could help me ?
I would just like to uderstand where to look for, to be able to change the way the posts are displayed when I click on a category name.
