Anyone have any luck with this at all yet?  To reiterate what I am looking for: in the outreach theme there is a featured slider...below that is a bar (which spans the entire width of the site)..I am looking to put a separate widget between the two..Thank you!

ANSWER:  I found this plugin…after many, many other installed this seems to be VERY simple AND not cause disturbances on other parts of the site, highly recommenced:

I was able to add another home featured widget ok with the link you provided:  http://www.briangardner.com/home-widget-area-eleven40/ ...however, it has merged with the slider rather than being a separated...thoughts?
