Thanks, wp guy. Much appreciated.
SuzanneperMemberNo worries. Thanks so much once again. I am a happy woman. It's a great theme. I will mark this as resolved now.
SuzanneperMemberWhere do you see there is no woman? I see her in Firefox and Explorer. I certainly never removed her. The theme is responsive so the header changes according to the computer and search engine. Sometimes the text is over her and somethimes not depending on whether I enlarge my view in the search engine or not. In Explorer it sits away from her but in Firefox it is still a little over her but I have stopped worrying about it now that I have the header narrower, which was my main aim. But I would like to make sure others can see the woman before I mark this thread as resolved. By the way, you have been of enormous help. Thanks so much.
SuzanneperMemberOkay, my site is back up and I have changed the padding which has done what I wanted. Now, I am wondering if you know how to get the writing off the image of the woman. Then my header would finally be sorted.
SuzanneperMemberI can see what you have done but the back-end of my site is down at the moment so I can't try that. Maybe I have fiddled too much. I think I know how to solve the trousers disappearing but have to get the code right first. I am waiting on my webhost to get back to me right now but I wanted to thank you for your help.
SuzanneperMemberThanks for your response. I have tried changing the height in the code but it doesn't make it narrower just pushes the image out the side so half is hidden. I can't find any padding number for the text content in the header. Maybe I don't know where to look but I have tried to find it.
SuzanneperMemberBill, I am ready to move. I am so over the slow speed and the down times. It is driving me crazy. Recently I got an email from Brian Gardner at Studiopress with a hosting deal. Is this the same service that have spoken about above?
SuzanneperMemberI have done a search for those bits of code but can't find either, and not being very savvy about code, I wouldn't know what else to look for. It all looks normal to me but that might not be saying anything.
SuzanneperMemberChris, that is probably the best solution but that offer for sale info at the end of the post only needs to be there until 11.59pmEST so then it can come off. I suspect the issue is in that section because there are a lot of links in it. I'll see if the problem is gone when I remove it later today. Thanks.
SuzanneperMemberThanks for the answer. That's right. This is the page that is not right: http://www.strandsofmylife.com/strawberry-coconut-macaroons-grain-dairy-nut-and-refined-sugar-free/ while the home page and everything else is right. Idid suspect something has gone wrong with all the code and links in that particular post but how can I identify which part it is?
SuzanneperMemberBill, sorry it has taken this long to get back to you. I returned to work after a nice two-week break when I concentrated on my blog and time is short again. Just to clarify, the almost 50,000 views were the stats from WordPress Jetpack and they were actual visits not page views. I have since checked Google Anatytics and the visits are 41,000+ with the unique visitors at 39,000+ and 49,000+ page views for December.
I have had a look at my bill from Bluehost and they charge $5.95/month and I guess you get what you pay for. I will stick with them for the moment but as soon as the traffic gets too high for them, I will get back to you. I have bookmarked this thread.
Thanks you so much for all your help. It has been much appreciated.
SuzanneperMemberThanks, Brian, I did that but now my problem is that the quote posts go out to my followers and it seems there is no way to stop that so the quote feature is not worth using, unfortunately. I sorted all the other issues except that one.
SuzanneperMemberThanks, Bill, for your detailed explanation - it was very enlightening. Last month I had almost 50,000 views. What would the cost be for that traffic?
SuzanneperMemberThanks, Leon. I have been doing it in Lightroom and photoshop.
SuzanneperMemberOh, I'm glad that somehow I fixed the Jquery problem.
I think I have a Google Webmaster Tools account - I will check tomorow morning. It's past midnight here in New Zealand and the New Year has started. I must go to bed.
The vast majority of my audience is from the US - that's why I have my host there. Could you please let me know your costing and if it suits, I would do what you said and try it out first. My husband is in IT and he knows how to modify the DNS but I have never done it. What kind of traffic a day can your servers cope with? I know a fellow blogger had to move from Bluehost because they couldn't cope with her traffic when it rose.
Off to bed.
SuzanneperMemberThanks, I downloaded those tools and worked hard on getting the weight down last night after getting your emails.
2 & 3. I eventually found how to turn off some of the Jetpack features and did so. I can see the words Jquery in the Jetpack Contact form and the Share feature. Could they be the problem? Unfortunately they are both features I need. If that is the problem, maybe I can get them in a different way. Any ideas?
6. I think when I set up my blog in WordPress, I had to choose whether to have the www. or not or to have both and I chose both. Maybe I can find that place and check only the without www. option because I have it without on my business card and elsewhere. But what if I have the www. version somewhere else and it no longer works?
7. What is your hosting service and what would be involved in changing over?Regards,
SuzanneSuzanneperMemberSorry to add so many comments but I found this: http://prettypictures.wpperform.com/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js?... It has the jquery in it. Could this be the extra one?
SuzanneperMemberBill, I did a search for Jquery on each of my plugins and found it throughout my Contactme Plugin which creates the form on my Contact Me page. Could this be the problem?
SuzanneperMemberWow! That's heaps of information. I will work through all this. Thanks so much!
Meanwhile, I was wondering where to find the WP Repo so I can manually change Jetpack? I have Googled it but it takes so long to work through all the results and I haven't found an answer yet.
As for Jquery, I googled it too and I did see what you mentioned that people think it is better to load from Google but I am happy to take your advice on this. I haven't found which plugin it might be though. I did have a poll on my site once but I don't think I used a Plugin. Maybe I will trash that post. I don't need it. I used Polldaddy.
I have already just now reduced the number of posts on the front page from 10 to 7. I figured that would help.
I am with Bluehost unfortunately. Which server would you recommend, especially considering that my traffic is climbing so I need a server which will cope?
SuzanneperMemberOh, and could you tell me where I can find the size of my front page? In the source code? If so, whereabouts? That way I can check it as I make changes.
