I have searched through the forums for answers to a few questions I have about the theme, Pretty Pictures. But most of the questions on the threads don't lead to any conclusion with the discussions suspended without useful solutions. The main thing I want to do is to make the header narrower on my blog: http://www.strandsofmylife.com

I have tried changing the width in functions.php but it just moves the header in strange ways and I lose part of the image I have in the header but the depth is still the same. It is so wide that it uses most of the useful space above the fold. Is it perhaps because I have too much text in the header widget or does it never change because of the responsive nature of this theme? I have played for hours without success. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this will help, but if you are talking about the large gray image above the fold, I see the code on your page where it says the image is 500px in height. Perhaps you can adjust the image and specify a smaller pixel height.

    <div class="backstretch" style="left: 0px; top: 0px; overflow: hidden; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; height: 500px; width: 1663px; z-index: -999998; position: absolute;">

If I change the 550px in FireBug to 420px it still looks good and accomplishes the task, but you would need to tweak the padding for the content inside the image so it looks right.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response. I have tried changing the height in the code but it doesn't make it narrower just pushes the image out the side so half is hidden. I can't find any padding number for the text content in the header. Maybe I don't know where to look but I have tried to find it.

    Hi,

Wish I had a better place to put this image, but maybe you can see what I did here and how it looks.

I changed the image to 420px high like I said above and then in the style.css line 337 section I changed the padding to 4% to move the content up. It looks like this accomplishes the task, at least viewed in FireFox.

One thing to note. In my picture notice you can't see the girls pants.

So I think you want to reduce the height of the actual image so it looks the same,  just not as tall.

I can see what you have done but the back-end of my site is down at the moment so I can't try that. Maybe I have fiddled too much. I think I know how to solve the trousers disappearing but have to get the code right first. I am waiting on my webhost to get back to me right now but I wanted to thank you for your help.

Okay, my site is back up and I have changed the padding which has done what I wanted. Now, I am wondering if you know how to get the writing off the image of the woman. Then my header would finally be sorted.

    Hi,

I see you removed the picture of the woman and the header is narrower now. I'm not sure why you would want to remove the text there, it looks great as it is.

Hopefully I helped point you in the right direction.

If you are happy with it please mark this thread resolved.

    Cheers!

Where do you see there is no woman? I see her in Firefox and Explorer. I certainly never removed her. The theme is responsive so the header changes according to the computer and search engine. Sometimes the text is over her and somethimes not depending on whether I enlarge my view in the search engine or not. In Explorer it sits away from her but in Firefox it is still a little over her but I have stopped worrying about it now that I have the header narrower, which was my main aim. But I would like to make sure others can see the woman before I mark this thread as resolved. By the way, you have been of enormous help. Thanks so much.

    Hi,

I'm so sorry to alarm you like that! It's fine, the woman is indeed there. I use FireFox with NoScript and earlier when I hit your page I forgot to "allow" everything. The NoScript add-on blocks a lot of website elements, but protects me from all the nasties out there.

The site looks great now! I get hungry every time I visit. The height looks perfect now.

So glad I could help. Cheers!

No worries. Thanks so much once again. I am a happy woman. It's a great theme. I will mark this as resolved now.
