I solved the problem.
The problem was caused by the code I had inserted in the functions.php file of the theme taken from this guide: https://wpsites.net/web-design/add-authority-pro-featured-images-on-single-pages/
I removed that code and everything came back to work.

I had read on some post on the Internet that in my case you could create a template attachment.php to solve the problem of images not attached in the WordPress media.
