That seems to have been the problem - I re-saved the Permalinks a few times and the ThirstyAffiliate plugin is now working ok 🙂
Thanks to everyone who helped and to Christoph for the final solution 🙂 I have bought you a coffee - hope you enjoy it 😉
sirhankMemberYes I agree Christoph - sorry for being a bit vague - I basically was trying to find out if there was any known problems with using the ThirstyAffiliates plugin with Studiopress themes ... here is a run down of what I have done:
I am using Studiopress News Pro Theme with WordPress 4.5.3
I installed the Thirsty Affiliate plugin and created a 'TestLink' to redirect to http://www.google.co.uk as a test link
If I click on 'All Affiliates' then click the 'view' on 'TestLink' then it takes me to the http://www.google.co.uk website (as it should)
If I open a page and highlight some text then click one of the green 'aff' buttons to create or add an affiliate link I get the 404 error page not found message
I have tried the solution described on the ThirstyAffiliate faults page
https://thirstyaffiliates.com/knowledgebase/links-arent-redirecting-brings-404-errorI still get same 404 error
I have disabled all plugins - no difference
I resaved the permalinks - no differenceI tried changing to the TwentySixteen theme and I get this error:
Oops! That page can’t be foundThat is as far as I have got so far ...
sirhankMemberThanks Braddalton I will give the Simple URLs plugin a try if I cannot get ThirstyAffiliates to work
