I set it as the Featured image so someone can see how it looks:

I even resized the image, but it is still showing as a huge image above the title.

The only option I could find was "Display the featured image above the title?"

I unchecked that, published it, and nothing changed.

No - I removed it as a Featured Image, because when I do a featured image it makes it big at the top of the page. I just want the title at the top - not a huge image, but in the post preview on the home page I want an image showing.
