ParticipantYou'll need to set the z-index property for either the slider, or the navigation items. Someone else may have to give you specific css if you can't figure it out, be here is the property:
z-index:-1;
Lower is in the background, higher is in the foreground.

ParticipantYou're likely viewing your site on a high resolution device (greater than 1920x1200), which will display [email protected] from the Genesis Sample theme. Whatever logo you uploaded needs a second image with that name, check the /images folder of the theme and replace that image as well as the regular logo.png image.

ParticipantHey there!
I'm new to Genesis as well, and recently started diving into the framework to figure everything out - I too am building off of the Sample theme. If you look in the Sample Theme folder, you'll see that there's a secondary image called [email protected], this is for high resolution devices. I too thought it was just messed up on mobile, but a mac book with a retina display will also show the default framework image - simply because of the high resolution.
The fix is to add [email protected] to the images folder of the theme - as the name suggests, it's simply the same image at 2x resolution, for use on high resolution devices.

ParticipantYou set your own posts to resolved at the top of the page 🙂

ParticipantWhat exactly is the relation in size concerning the media queries? I did a similar change myself (expanded the width), but my site doesn't display properly on mobile now. (I assume this isn't thread hijacking, since it's related and will likely be asked by the OP)

ParticipantWhat would you do in this case then - decrease the size of the right widget area, and use float right for both the right widget area, and the logo area?

ParticipantI too am leaning towards that. When you view your site on PageSpeed Insights, the only thing out of the norm is your Server Response Time, which is showing about 3.7 seconds for me. The site loads in a little over 4~, so it's definitely the server response time that's causing the delay.

ParticipantThat does the trick, didn't know about the body.home access! Thanks a lot 🙂

ParticipantAh, that explains it, there's separate css for the mobile devices - I'm new to "rem" units vs "px", so I figured that rem was what controlled the mobile responsive portion of the site.
That being said, what values will work to keep it mobile responsive? I see where to edit now, but can I simply throw in 1000px for a mobile device?

ParticipantIf you're against either for any reason, both are viable on their own. I use both myself, but I've used them individually. I've heard to stay away from compressing / minifying javascript, but html and css seem to work fine. The rest of the caching is basic, and not really prone to error. Like I said, if you use both, make sure you follow a guide on how to set them up with your hosting (shared, vps, etc).

ParticipantNot sure if it's been suggested already, but set up W3 Cache, as well as CloudFlare (both are free). Make sure you follow a quick guide on the preferred settings (disk enhanced for shared hosting, for W3 Cache).
I've seen huge improvements with those two combined, should get your site below 1.5 seconds.

ParticipantExcellent response, thanks a lot!
While it's probably obvious, I'm awake way too early to think too deeply and must ask - what is the value relationship between rem and px? 1rem = 10px?

ParticipantThanks a lot for the information, I've got what I need to make a decision.

ParticipantGreat to see almost all of my questions answered. One more thing:
All of the themes for me right now show Genesis Framework + Theme for somewhere in the price range of $90 - $100~. If I buy just the Genesis Framework now, I assume all of the themes will appear for sale as just the themes on my account? Furthermore, is the cost the same, or would I be saving decently if I bought the framework and a theme all at once?
I'm fairly confident I can build on just the framework / Sample theme, but there was a theme that stood out as a good starting point, so if I decide I do want it, I don't want it lose out on a $20 or so savings.

ParticipantThanks for the information, a few more questions.
When you make a Genesis child theme, do you simply copy the Genesis Framework and create a new child theme as you would with Theme A, and child of Theme A? What I'm really wondering is, can I simply take the Genesis Framework (is this technically a theme itself?) and copy / paste a child theme folder from that, and edit that to create my child theme? I'm still unsure if I need a SP child theme of Genesis to start customizing, or if I can do it myself as described above.
