I just figured it out. I had a stray </div> in a text widget in my header right widget area. Once I removed that, header left widget area is back to normal.

Lesson learned: if you're stuck, go to bed and look at it fresh in the morning!

Grrr. Sorry about that. It was too late last night! Maintenance mode now disabled. Thanks Victor.

I just realized that I was using Going Green 2.0 so I upgraded to 3.0 and it was easy to resolve the issue (CSS is quite different now).
