Thanks for your response Andrea. This blog is a hobby of mine, and I am a complete novice when it comes to coding, so I prefer the experimental approach with Firebug, as you suggest.
I must admit, after looking at that link and other various resources, I had no idea that the majority of computer users were still using (what I would call) low resolutions. I would have thought 1680 would have long been the standard horizontal resolution, with 1920 and 2560 representing the 2nd and 3rd places. I can't even think of the last time I saw a desktop without a widescreen monitor...
There's no "magic" with the 1400px wrap that I am currently try to work, except that I have always found the slimmer templates constricting on photos, tables, and charts (and I post a lot of those). Maybe I'm missing the big picture here, but I hate seeing 3" on wasted space on both sides of the screen, and would love to use more of that space. I'm thinking of trying two things, I'd be interested to get input on them:
1) Reducing the width from 1400 to 1360. This will allow the largest group of users (cheap laptops) @ 1366x768 to view it at full width. I am hoping this will solve the menu issue also, but it may not.
2) Bumping up the width where the responsive code kicks in from 1139 to something close to 1360 (I may be getting out of my depth here, but willing to give it a shot).I'll make those changes and see what happens.
I've also got a few issues with trying to make my header sticky...I suppose I will start a new thread for that issue.
Thanks
