November 5, 2014 at 9:22 pm in reply to: HELP!! Trying to edit/save a widget and getting error message #130641krystynParticipant
Never mind. Apparently, a plugin was overriding it!
krystynParticipantThank you, Susan!!
krystynParticipantI've added this code here http://dudemom.com/ trying to exclude category 3119 from the homepage. I added the code to functions.php (currently) after trying home.php with neither removing it from home.
Will this not work with the balance theme?
krystynParticipantThank you @tony-alphablossom. Even easier, I just killed the arrows! I'm a goober and didn't remember that I had added that slider!
krystynParticipantOkay, @braddalton, I guess I will have to start over.
krystynParticipantThanks @tonya_lunarwp for the catch. I've changed it with no luck. I've added genesis grid to add some options, but it's not idea. I can't figure out what's wrong.
krystynParticipant@braddalton, I forgot to tag you.
krystynParticipantTo register the widgets, I used the tutorial here and swapped out the names: http://www.studiopress.community/topic/add-additional-featured-widget-on-homepage-of-blissful/
I haven't posted on the support page as it says that customizations aren't part of the help.
Here's the entirety of my functions.php:
<script src="https://gist.github.com/anonymous/6e1128b0fb16387f428e.js"></script>
I feel like I've just got one thing wrong and I can't figure it out. I know (think?) they are registered fine because they show on the widgets page. And, I can add things (and have added things to them), but the home page isn't changing and instead is just showing the most recent posts in order.
krystynParticipant@braddalton let me try one more time. Sorry about that.
<script src="https://gist.github.com/anonymous/e131e74e816288614be4.js"></script>
krystynParticipantSorry about that @braddalton. Hopefully this works.
Here's my original home edits (ie, what I'm using now):
<script src="https://gist.github.com/anonymous/0096407243bad8f64110.js"></script>Here's the modern home code that comes with the theme:
<script src="https://gist.github.com/anonymous/4afd5f28b9fe6575c86f.js"></script>
When I tried to combine the two nothing loaded on the home page at all. No header, no background, anything. Just a white space.
krystynParticipantPerfect! Thank you. I've swapped it out!
krystynParticipant@braddalton....I'm a goober and forgot to place the check mark in the "use php" section in simple hooks and now it works.
But, I'm curious, why would it be better to use this custom function instead? Just curious. Just so I'm not using a plugin?
krystynParticipantThanks @anitac. It was actually the twitter badge. For some reason, it didn't like the link. We switched to bit.ly and it is now working. So strange.
krystynParticipantThanks! It was actually that 107px that I commented out:) I did that between asking and looking harder. Sometimes my brain thinks backwards.
On to my algebra problem...to think I loved it in highschool! But, I think I'm getting closer!
krystynParticipantYes, I totally follow. The header is actually 1000px, so for the 240px, the height should be right around 50px (give or take). but, when I change the height, it's cropping the image width-wise, but there is still a ton of space height-wise (blank space under the header). Like there is an extra title piece or something I'm missing that is also taking up space?
Oh, and those breakpoints were the ones automatically in the theme.
krystynParticipantThanks for the extra testing link.
I am familiar with firebug, just not sure how to make the changes to play with mobile?
And, I'm puzzled why changing the min-height for the various @media sizes is changing the width of the header again.
krystynParticipantThank you @jami-howard. I will play with that.
I guess that's the best way to try to figure out the height it should be? I've played with the smallest two sizes and I can't get the height to go down any more for the 240 width here: http://www.studiopress.com/responsive/
And, 320 seems to be chopping the width as well, but still leaving too much height.
Do you have any additional suggestions.
April 29, 2014 at 1:06 pm in reply to: Display Category Archives as a Thumbnail Gallery w/o a plugin #102976krystynParticipant@braddalton do you see a reason while the titles aren't wrapping here and are wider than the pictures? I've played in firebug and it's just not working right.
Category page is here: http://www.gravitybread.com/category/books-and-mealtime/
krystynParticipantThanks, Susan. This one isn't resolved yet.
krystynParticipantThanks! I figured it out. I registered widget areas and then used the genesis featured amplified widget:)
