What browser, etc are you using? Have you cleared your cache or done a hard refresh (shift-F5 on PCs)?
Everything looks right to me.

Genesis eNews Extended SupportGenesis is really great about keeping up with the latest WP installs. Just because a plugin doesn't state it is compatible doesn't mean that it isn't compatible.
Simple Hooks works great under 3.5.1.
StudioPress and those in the community generally do a really good job of "future-proofing" their code, meaning that it would work for many generations of WordPress after when they wrote it. Simple Hooks hasn't needed any changes recently to keep it working.
The most recent StudioPress-related plugin that *needed* an update, that I'm aware of, was Simple URLs, that needed a small tweak when 3.5 came out.
In short, it is always best practice to run the most up-to-date version of WordPress and all plugins, and the Genesis community is big about ensuring everything still works with everything else in the ecosystem!

Genesis eNews Extended SupportYeah, $ is the jquery short function name, which is disabled on WordPress to prevent conflicts. You'd either need to replace $ with jQuery as the function name, or wrap everything is the function below:

Genesis eNews Extended SupportI'd think it may be a permissions issue. Have you tried setting the permissions of the folder to either 755 or 775? (Likely, the easiest way is to use the file manage in your host's control panel or via FTP using a client like Filezilla).

1. Either use one of the name fields (by putting "name" without quotes) in the first name field setting;
2. If you only want to collect e-mail, change the last line of the hiddens to
<input type="hidden" name"meta_required" value="email" />

Genesis eNews Extended SupportThis is what I added to my functions.php to do what you want (may be off on number of posts, just recalled it was in the 50s):
This is modifying the main query by setting what categories to include/exclude. The minus sign preceding instructions WP to exclude. This isn't a Genesis-specific setup—it's part of WordPress core:

I made a sandbox site mimicking, as best as I could, your category setup and it worked for me. There may be some other plugin or functions script that is impacting it.
It needs to be in functions.php (whereas the genesis grid loop is typically found in home.php) and it is separate from the grid loop. Also, when pasting it in, be sure to use straight single-quotes (e.g. rather than the "fancy ones" that is rendered in your previous comment-- just copying/pasting from the forum may be an issue).

Genesis eNews Extended SupportAre you putting the new code ($query->set(cat...)) in functions.php? WP needs the info early in the process, so placing it in home.php is too late for it to make the change.
Borrowing from Bill's site, putting this at the end of functions.php should take care of you:
