Thank you for your response. What do you mean "Go back and add the correct domain name." Where do I do this? I notice that many of my images, widgets included, are not showing up either. Very frustrating. Thank you!

Agh... I did upload the logo.png but totally missed the election to change the header under the Genesis tab. You are an angel. Seriously, I wasted hours yesterday messing with this. (grin)

I have used News Theme successfully. I believe it meets your criteria:

clean, simple, pretty minimal
customizable header
ability to opt out of a huge featured image
social media widgets towards the top of the page (use simple social icon, My Pinterest Badge and other cool widgets to accessorize the sidebar.

To publish my recipes I use kitchen monki: http://www.kitchenmonki.com. They are super-good folk to work with.
