If it's the tagline see if this works:
.site-description {
display: none;
}

jengabbardMemberAre you talking about the separation between your menu and the top article on your site?

jengabbardMemberI'd use a plugin like simple css if you're not comfortable editing css on your own and add:
.styles .sidebar {
background-color: #0a0e11;
text-transform: uppercase;
}and then as far as the underline goes do you want just the sidebar links to be underline free or everything?

jengabbardMemberI don't have any experience with tables but it looks like header cells are bold by default when using the <th> element. http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_td.asp
"The html tag <th> is for table headers which prints in bold. If you need to display regular text change it to <td> or use CSS to get rid of it. "

jengabbardMemberjengabbardMemberI like the look of the background but yes - I'd go with something with a little less detail just so it doesn't distract away from the main content.
I've found a lot great patterns from subtlepatterns.com that look pretty nice

jengabbardMemberAnother possibility would be to add a logo in your sidebar that links to your about page. Just a little something that adds something easily identifiable with your "brand." It looks like you've already done some branding with all of your social profiles - you could use that same logo that way it's instantly recognizable.

jengabbardMemberI like the layout; and I love the clean look. You might want to consider making a logo or something that will make it a little bit more memorable though. It doesn't have to be anything large; I think it would look great with a simple icon of some sort off to the left of the title.
I'm not sure what you mean by you category pages because they seem to be using different layouts.

jengabbardMemberI think overall it looks great - didn't try it on mobile just a PC. It's easy to navigate and I like the layout.
The two things I would personally change would be the background - I'd make it a slightly more sublte pattern. I'd also consider using a slightly darker link color - the turquoise is a little hard to read on the white background.

jengabbardMemberYou're using the featured posts widget on your homepage, correct?
You should have a home Top/ Middle Left / Middle Right/ and Bottom portion.
If you want to show the latest 4 blog posts as you have Just place the featured post widget in either the top or bottom with the settings Davinder showed above.

jengabbardMember.utility-bar {
padding-bottom: #px;
}If you're talking about reducing the amount of space below the phone number.
Or I don't know if you'd want to change the height of your banner? What space is it exactly that's bothering you?

jengabbardMemberYou've got a id="text-21" under your leaderboard and above the site inner with a margin-bottom of 3.2rem.
I'm guessing
.text-21 {
margin-bottom: (your new #)
}would do the trick

jengabbardMemberjengabbardMemberIt looks broke now that I went back to it; check cloudfare as well. I eventually deactivated my cloudfare account completely because I was ending up with minification errors from it (even w/the options turned off).

jengabbardMemberjengabbardMemberIt looks fine, did you get it fixed? I had a similar problem recently and it was due to some minification plugin issues.

jengabbardMemberThe only suggestion I have is making the link color less bright; it's not very easy to read on the white background.
