    It all depends on how you do things. There's more than one way to skin a cat, but if you do it this way, then it is easy to add a class to the sidebar markup.  As for Simple Sidebars, send me a message. I may have something for you to test.

    The background for the dropdowns actually comes from this css:

    #subnav li ul {
    background: #222222;
    height: auto;
    left: -9999px;
    padding: 0 10px;
    position: absolute;
    width: 140px;
    z-index: 9999;
    }

    It does look nice.

    RE: the background image, I do think it would be better to not-repeat it down the page but, instead, blend it to the color at the bottom of the image.
