Chris CreeParticipant
This may not be helpful, but it would be a whole lot easier on your end to just choose background image/font color combinations that still work when stupid IE8 doesn't show the background images.
If you could encourage them to use a decent browser such as Chrome or even FireFox, then everyone wins. Both are free.
Chris CreeParticipantOh. In that case your h1.entry-title will hide the titles for both the pages and the single blog posts.
Instead, to target only the titles on pages change that to this:
.page h1.entry-title {
display: none;
}However, it looks like you found the better way to hide your page titles by using php.
Chris CreeParticipantYou don't have to make your LOGO that size. Just the header image you upload. You can place your logo on a larger image, complete with the tag line using Photoshop, Gimp, or the image editor of your choice.
You can make the header image look however you like, with elelements like your logo, tag line, whatever sized and placed where you want them. For example, my header for Purposely Different has the "logo" along with the tag line on a larger header image.
It just requires you to think about the solution to your problem a little differently is all.
Chris CreeParticipantIf you don't want to use the theme as it's designed then it's like I said. Customizing the main navigation area to add your icons is really beyond the scope of this community forum.
Chris CreeParticipantRick, FWIW, if you reread your original question you will see that you actually stated "above" in both instances, which is why I asked for clarification.
Also please keep in mind that most of us here are volunteers who come here to help fellow Genesis users in and around the busyness in lives because we like to see others get ahead. Since that's the case, try to remember to apply a little patience when we don't respond right away.
The easiest way to get what you are going for is to use the Genesis Featured Widget Amplified plugin. With that you can place the featured image below the title.
Chris CreeParticipantIn that case you're going to have to add some code to your functions.php file. Here's a code snippet that will do the trick: Genesis Read More Post Excerpts
Chris CreeParticipantSorry about the typo.
You will have to put the category code above the related post code so it executes first. Try this (typo corrected) instead:
<div><span class="categories"><?php the_category(', ') ?></span></div> <?php if ( function_exists( 'related_posts' ) ) { related_posts(); } ?>
Chris CreeParticipantYou're going to have to change out the Google Web Font with either a TypeKit font such as League Gothic or add an @font-face font to do this.
I've dabbled some with @font-face and had a horrible time with it. It's a huge challenge to get them to render well across all platforms. Google Web Fonts and Type Kit fonts are much easier to implement. Typekit has instructions on how to use their fonts.
Chris CreeParticipantOK. I the problem is that your related post plugin is hooking into the post content area. So when you use the after_post_content hook it gets put below your related post stuff.
Go to YARPP options and turn off the "automatically display" options in the "website" section.
Then add this to your genesis_after_post_content hook:
<?php if ( function_exisits( 'related_posts' ) ) { related_posts(); }
Chris CreeParticipantYou can upload a header image with Agent Press. Go to Appearance --> Header and upload an image there. An image that is 960px wide by 125px high will give you the best results. Then you can just put your logo on the left side of that header image.
Chris CreeParticipantIt shouldn't do that. When you uncheck that box with the Education theme and "Save Changes" the text should go away and leave you with the image alone.
If you try it one more time, being extra careful to click the "Save Changes" button after you uncheck that box, and the text doesn't go away then you should probably submit a support ticket because something is amis.
Chris CreeParticipantYeah. It's the little things that sometimes cause the biggest frustrations - like the order we do stuff. Glad it's sorted for you.
Lisa was pretty scared by the fire too. I thought about why I wasn't so much. I guess it's 'cause I had to gear up and go into burning structures in shipboard firefighting training both with the merchant marine and the Navy. I knew it was time to go but that we weren't in imminent danger. Still, if I never have to go through that again it's A-OK with me. 🙂
Chris CreeParticipantYour code got zapped by the forum. You can use the tags listed in the FAQs around your code so it will display here.
Chris CreeParticipantHeya Tammy!
Colorado is beyond wonderful. We love it out here. Well, the fire thing was a little too up close and personal this summer. But that's behind us now.
On the slider, I have to confess I use Soliloquy for most things these days so I'm not sure on the inner workings of the Genesis slider. - Honestly I would have stayed out of the conversation probably but I saw it was you. 😛
Since the Slider settings are 1040x400 something seems like it's amis. Did you upload the images after those dimentions were set in the slider? I've had issues where I changed the settings and the images don't change. I had to re-upload the images to get it working.
Or maybe you can rebuild those thumbnails with something like: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ajax-thumbnail-rebuild/
Chris CreeParticipantIf you're looking to do a "membership" type of site I recommend you take a look at Premise, especially if you are using Genesis (they're both by Copyblogger Media).
Premise is Multisite compatible so you could create a member-only site on the network.
Chris CreeParticipantHeya Tammy!
It does look like it is using a resized version of the image for some reason. For example one of the images in the slider is: davis-920x400.png instead of the original davis.png.
Is it possible that the slider is pulling the "Large" size instead of the original size?
Chris CreeParticipantDouble check your widget settings. Make sure you have it set to "Show Content Limit".
Chris CreeParticipantHave you tried the Appearance --> Background menu? That's probably a good place to start.
Chris CreeParticipant"Right now the featured image is showing up above the title." = "I’d like to get it above the title."
What are you asking?
Do you mean the question I already answered for you here? http://www.studiopress.community/topic/how-to-change-the-featured-image-to-display-to-left-of-the-blog-title/
If so, can you give someone a half a chance to respond instead of repeating the question?
If not, please be a little more clear.
Also, you can do a little Google searching for some of your questions. Folks around here will help where they can. But bombarding the forum with tons of basic questions, especially ones that can be answered with a quick Google search, is not the kind of first impression you probably want to make.
Chris CreeParticipantThat isn't a feature built into the Magazine theme. If you want your social icons up top on every page, then your best bet is to use the "Header Right" widget area and drag the social icon widget of your choice there. The Simple Social Icons plugin is a popular choice.
Customizing the main navigation area to add your icons is really beyond the scope of this community forum, I think.
