October 1, 2015 at 10:07 am in reply to: double widget entry for widget area after posts (in single posts only) #167151BillParticipantI am sorry Marcy,
I neglected to include that code. I actually did that!January 7, 2015 at 4:16 pm in reply to: Need help pulling in a footer script on homepage only #136315BillParticipantHi John,
thank you for your response. I am looking for the homepage only. not an internal page which has the editor to add a script.BillParticipantThanks Brad for jumping in! I am running 3.9.2 currently. I have a bunch of plugins that may not be 100% 4.0 compatible so I am still at 3.9.2 until the official upgrade and all plugins have a chance to update. ...so this doesn't seem to be working.
Also, I have another question regarding this. I have the two main CPT archives:
http://www.clearwaterhomes.com/neighborhoods/
http://www.clearwaterhomes.com/condominiums/...but then I also use CPT categories to display filtered CPT archives for matching that category:
Ex) This one of for a specific community category in the neighborhoods CPT:
http://www.clearwaterhomes.com/sarasota-homes/longboat-key-neighborhoods/Ex) This one is for a specific condo community category in the condominiums CPT:
http://www.clearwaterhomes.com/sarasota-condos/longboat-key-condominiums/I have about 20 CPT categories for both the condominiums and also for neighborhoods CPT.
I need all of the CPT archives (including the cpt category archives) to also use the same alphabetical order by title format.
But I do not want the regular blog archives, etc to use that order....just the CPT's and any categories of CPT.
(not sure if this makes a difference or not).BillParticipantthat did it. Thanks so much genrock.
BillParticipantDoes anyone have a suggestion for this? The remove action is not working.
//Add custom sidebar for my page template
remove_action( 'genesis_sidebar', 'genesis_do_sidebar' ); //remove the default genesis sidebar
add_action( 'genesis_sidebar', 'my_do_sidebar' ); //add an action hook to call the function for my custom sidebar
//Function to output my custom sidebar
function my_do_sidebar() {
dynamic_sidebar( 'new-sidebar' );
}I have tried variations of this code. I have a new page template, and i am using this code in that template with the goal of deleting the primary sidebar on these pages, and adding a new sidebar on these pages. This code is adding the new sidebar on this template page successfully.... but it NOT removing the primary sidebar. The Primary sidebar is just below the new sidebar. I can't understand why.
I am using the education theme that was changed to html 5
NOTE: I already use simple sidebars for other things on this site, but I need to target this page template specifically for new sidebars. That is why I need to accomplish this from the page template side of things rather than "just use simple sidebars". As far as I know, you cant use simple sidebars to target a page template unless you use the primary sidebar, and use widget logic plugin to target the page template with a conditional statement....and I don't want to do that for other reasons. WHy is the primary sidebar not getting removed?
BillParticipantThanks for the response Dorian! I tried this, and I get the same thing as my code. I still have the original primary sidebar, and then underneath all the widgets from the primary sidebar I get the new widgets from the new sidebar. For some reason the primary sidebar is not removing. I am using and html5 mod of the education theme. (if that makes any difference) I dont think it would though.
I could use simple sidebars as well (as I do use it on this site already, but the catch is I need to call the simple sidebar based on the page template. not sure the conditional to do that..... that is why I was trying to just put this code above in the actual page template itself. hope that makes sense.

November 6, 2013 at 11:43 am in reply to: Know of any 3rd-party single page/parallax type Genesis child themes…? #71276BillParticipantMediaGuru... Denali and a one page parallax theme really are two different things. I do understand your reservations from deviating away from studiopress. I have had some bad experiences in the past...lol. And yes, having their own contact form instead of a widget for Gforms is a bit of a bummer. It could be adapted though. They could probably do it for you fairly easily if you don't want to try it and was willing to throw a few bucks their way.
However I really would be pleasantly surprised if Genesis created a one page (with maybe on option to add outside pages) true parallax theme in the future, ....but I would not wait around for it and put off your client. SP tends to keep things pretty simple and let a designer do his or her own thing. You don't get tons of fancy bells and whistles with gadget-like features.... with SP...what you get is solid and secure framework, seo powerhouse, solid updates, and great support. I do wish SP would try a few fancier things like this though to shake things up.
I make take a stab at converting Denali when it comes out to a true parallax using some JS, but Its not gonna be a one page theme unless I use a SP one page theme to start with. Like Jsper1 suggested just above though...maybe a combo of the zigzag one page theme, and finding some Javascript already out there online may make exactly what you are looking for. If you get it to work, let me know!!! I sure would love that as well.
November 5, 2013 at 10:29 pm in reply to: Know of any 3rd-party single page/parallax type Genesis child themes…? #71198BillParticipantinteresting you posted this. I had to start development on a site a few weeks ago using a themify parallax theme because there really are no genesis comparables...and I REALLY dislike using other themes. Genesis spoils you so much with consistency and reliability. However, its important to point out that even this unreleased Denali theme is not really Parallax. It uses fixed backgrounds, but Themify has more of a true parallax affect because the background of each parallax section actually is not fixed....it moves at a slower rate than the rest of the site's content.
Denali could probably be modified fairly easily with some JS though to accomplish the same. Also, Denali is not a one page site setup either.
I really wish there was a true equiv though because I think those themes you mention are really cool, but I love Genesis and hate deviating from it.... but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. ...and then probably regret it later. 🙂
As a side note though, I was really impressed with the support... usually I am bitterly disappointed with support from other theme makers compared to what I am used to here....but I was pleasantly surprised. I still love genesis though.
BillParticipantyes, Brad is right. I missed that in the original support post.. you need to edit style.css, NOT the theme settings area. That is not for style changes to the theme.
thanks Brad.BillParticipantThe div id's changed in 2.0. for instance, #header changed to .site-header
. This will help you compare the differences and change as you need!
http://www.briangardner.com/code/genesis-html5-markup/BillParticipantIt takes more work than I can list here, but I have done it on this website. If you would like some customization, shoot me a note.
April 3, 2013 at 5:59 am in reply to: how do I call this link reference in my genesis meta hook? #32797BillParticipantThanks for your response. ok getting close, but not quite.
Using this functions file I am able to call the script and the accompanying css (even though I have not formatted the css yet) for a property search plugin and have it fire only on the homepage. This code enables a property search feature to work, and I am using my search code in a text widget in the footer currently for testing purposes.
What is supposed to happen is that you start to type the area or neighborhood you want to search, and it will pull up a menu of matches as you are typing the area name or community name. Here it is in action: site
It works as it is supposed to (meaning it does pull up the community names or area names as you start typing) now, so the enqueue is working, however this search feature is only actually working when used in the footer widget. It does not work for any other widget areas I have on the homepage.
As you can see by the function code, I am using the genesis_meta as the hook for the insertion of the js script link and accompanying css link, however I notice these link calls are being placed at the bottom of the source code page, not the meta area as I created in the hook.
Could this be why the feature only works in the footer widget area? Anyone have any suggestions to fix this. Been working on this for a long time, and I am really close! But I need it to work in other widget areas besides the footer!

<?php
BillParticipantthanks for affirming that.
ok, I have used those other tab plugins before, however I would like to show featured posts using the featured posts widgets for the different categories. This plugin seemed to be the right match, and it is a studiopress plugin. Any word on whether this studiopress plugin will be updated?
BillParticipantthanks for the reply, I wish it was that easy (I am sure it is an easy fix though) ...I had edited the code down In my post above from 20 widgets or so to just a few as an example...my fault.
the live site though was using css with the appropriate widget number in the css. See the full line below:it still doesnt work though.
/*change widget background color on a per widget basis*/
#text-145.widget, #text-146.widget, #text-147.widget, #text-148.widget, #text-149.widget, #text-150.widget, #text-151.widget, #text-152.widget, #text-153.widget, #text-154.widget, #text-155.widget {
background: #f5f5f5;
