Any WordPress techies out there? I have tried getting some support for this problem on the WordPress.org forums but have had no luck.

When I install the latest version of WordPress 3.92 I can not get the editor (tinymce) to respond. I get the following error via the browser console:
ReferenceError: getUserSetting is not defined wp-tinymce.php:36

This is a clean install, no plugins activated. I get the problem on a local install (xammp) and also on my hosted server (1&1, they can't help me either) . If I go back to an older version of WordPress (3.8.3, for example), I have no problems with the editor.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you using or have you ever used Bulletproof? Take a look at this http://wordpress.org/support/topic/troubleshooting-wordpress-35-master-list?replies=4. Scroll down to the bullet that talks about Bulletproof, but it states, "If you are experiencing problems with menus and widgets and the editor and similar not working, and you have ever used BulletProof Security, even if you're not using it anymore, then look for an .htaccess file in the /wp-admin directory, and delete it if it is there."

Thanks Anita for replying. Nobody seems to want to help with this problem. I suppose it because it could turn into one of those "rabbit-hole" problems. I don't have any plugins installed or activated (just the default Hello Dolly and Akismet.)

Anyway, it looks like I have solved the problem by re-installing WordPress directly from the dashboard. This worked on both my hosted and local server. I am not quite sure why. May be it was a problem with unzipping the WordPress download ? I noticed in the JS directory that one file remained unzipped. I of course tried unzipping, clearing the cache, deleting all plugins, etc. etc. it but it did not resolve the the problem. Who knows? Really frustrating. This has cost me so much time.

Anyway, thanks again for taking the time and for your suggestion.

Ok, glad to know. Maybe the upgrade didn't finish all the way and that's why reinstalling it from the dashboard worked. Thanks for posting your resolution to the forum. I am sure it will be very helpful to someone else with this problem.
