Are the latest Genesis framework and themes supported in WordPress 4? Thanks!
September 4, 2014 at 8:27 pm #122850scoeMemberI've never had an upgrade problem with StudioPress themes. I only test Pro themes. Tests are going well for me in 4.0. Did you have a specific theme you would like tested?
September 4, 2014 at 8:28 pm #122852AnitaCKeymasterIt's working fine. I've updated a few of them today. People on Twitter are reporting that their upgrades went smoothly.

September 4, 2014 at 8:41 pm #122854wynand32MemberExcellent, thanks to both! I'm using Prose, don't have any reason to think it won't work fine, just a little nervous since it's moving from 3.X to 4.X.
Guess I'll go ahead and kick off the upgrade and keep my fingers crossed... 🙂
September 4, 2014 at 9:32 pm #122861SummerMemberI've been reading on the WP.org troubleshooting forum threads that a lot of people's Media Galleries disappeared or stopped working in some fashion after they upgraded to 4.0... has anyone had a problem with that with any Genesis sites?

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSeptember 4, 2014 at 9:56 pm #122865ErinMemberI've actually had problems with my comments vanishing when using a genesis theme. When I use twenty-fourteen, comments show up, the comment form shows up. When I switch to a studiopress theme, all the comment functionality is gone.
I'm experiencing this issue in multisite, and I don't have an single sites where I run studiopress themes to see if the issue shows up on single sites. Also, this seems to only happen with studiopress created themes. With my own custom child genesis themes, everything is fine (both multisite and single site). But with genesis base and Beautiful Pro... no comments, no comment forms. BUT with a slightly customized Sixteen Nine Pro, the comments work fine.
I'm quite perplexed, but luckily the comment functionality is not critical to the sites being affected. Nice to have, but nothing I need to stress over.
September 5, 2014 at 1:56 am #122890Genesis DeveloperMemberI updated my site. I am not getting problem. Also my comment form is working perfectly.
September 5, 2014 at 2:57 am #122899scoeMemberMy media galleries are fine. But I have also seen reports of that. Make sense to check them.
I don't know if it is redundant to say this, but before any upgrade it's important to back up the site, database and everything. I only say this because there are new people here: a backup is useless if you are not sure how to restore your site from that backup. Practicing that is like having fire-drills, a pain but a great idea. My apologies if this is too basic.

Here's a quick look at WordPress 4.0
September 5, 2014 at 9:04 am #122935wynand32MemberAs an update, everything seems to be working fine since upgrading.
September 5, 2014 at 9:51 am #122937wp guyMemberMaybe it's just paranoia, but I always wait a bit to update unless it's some kind of security issue. I'm not seeing a lot in this update that I "need" to have and from time to time bugs are reported with updates. So I'll just sit back and wait a bit...
That said, this is one of the reasons I wish all of my clients would choose Genesis. I have far less fear clicking the update button.
September 5, 2014 at 9:59 am #122939scoeMemberHi wp_guy,
I agree. I don't update client sites right away unless there is a security issue. But I feel like I have to take the plunge myself so I can test the waters. No problems.
I don't offer non-genesis themes to clients any more. Too many headaches.
September 5, 2014 at 10:04 am #122941wp guyMemberSCOE - I'm getting close. I have clients "demanding" that I use other themes which always ends up costing me a lot in additional time. I like clean code.....not having to sift through 80 files. I have one studio that I will never use again - no need to "name names" here.
But yes...getting very close to telling clients that I exclusively work with Genesis.

If it helps, here's what I say. You are welcome to use that theme, just not with me.
Suggest they ask the other theme designer to recommend someone.

Seems like the way to go.

September 5, 2014 at 10:29 am #122947wp guyMemberI agree, and this goes right back to WordPress updates. So what happens to some random theme five years from now when it's no longer supported by the developer? I've already run into these issues.
So it becomes easier to make the case for sticking solely with Genesis.
September 5, 2014 at 11:10 am #122950jaijiParticipantI've only updated one site, still in development, and it's causing problems with Media uploads, throwing an HTTP Error (not specified) for each image uploaded and images seem incomplete - the file data (file size etc) shows up but no thumbnail. I'm using Dynamik Website Builder for the child theme. The issue persists with all plugins disabled.
I was going to revert to the previous WP version but I've just seen that it's just the thumbs which are missing, the images display fine on the front end. There are many support requests on Worpress.org so no doubt this will be addressed fairly quickly. i hope so.
September 5, 2014 at 11:21 am #122951Genesis DeveloperMember@jaiji Install the force regenerate thumbnail plugin. Now go to media library page and take the bulk update action. Hope that you'll get back your images
September 5, 2014 at 11:35 am #122954jaijiParticipantThanks very much genwrock, that worked.
To be clear, all the pre-existing images are fine, the problem is with new images uploaded today. I had the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin installed and I had run it but no change, but FRT does the job.
WP 4.0 has overhauled the whole Media Library with a new infinite-grid layout so you get the whole libary on one page. I've also noticed that in the old-style list view, the image editing function also no longer works.
I should add to this that having run FRT on just one image, the bulk upload feature now works as expected and thumbs are generated as they should be with no need to run FRT again. It also seems to have fixed the Media editing thing.
