Why am I not prompted to update?

    I'm just been helping someone with their new blog site using WP and they had a prompt to update to WP 4.0. When I go into my site i do not get this prompt. Is there a reason I might not be prompted to update?

    Maybe you have updates turned off or have already dismissed the prompt.

    You can go to updates and update at anytime there's an update.

    I have gone into the Updates section and it says:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    WordPress Updates

    Last checked on October 13, 2014 at 8:03 pm. Check Again

    Plugins

    Your plugins are all up to date.

    Themes

    Your themes are all up to date.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    When I click Check Again nothing comes up for me to update.

    That would mean that there is nothing to update - what version of WP are you running?

    Yes I did but it doesn't say there is any updates available, it just updates the day & time is says it was last checked.
