I was thinking of using the basic Genesis theme to start a website to get some sample pages in and play around with possible layouts, navigation, etc. before diving deeper into the design aspect. Basically using it for wireframes. Is there a How To and an XML file for getting Genesis to look like the demo like other themes have?

You can download the Sample Child Theme here - http://www.studiopress.com/free-themes/sample. You should modify the Framework itself. The file does contain an XML file that you can import to make it look like the demo.

Yikes! I meant to say you should *not* modify the Genesis Framework itself!
