    I accidentally stumbled upon this weird url occurrence and it seems like a duplicate content nightmare if you ask me...

    If I have a url with the structure: http://mysite.com/warm-or-cool
    it works and all is good BUT I figured out that if I type in:

    http://mysite.com/worm.or.cool

    it still loads the page. What the what? what on earth could be causing that? Is this a "helpful" wp feature...why on earth would that ever work like that.
    I was playing around and sure enough in google analytics the couple of permutations on the url I was testing all showed up as pages. yuck

    @Brad
    Dalton I went to your site and sure enough replacing hyphens with periods works too: http://wpsites.net/web-design/filter-archive.columns.in.genesis/

    Can anyone please shed some light on this?

    Thanks

    Hi,
    here is a good discussion on it:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/32464847/disallow-users-from-replacing-hyphens-with-periods-on-wordpress-sites

    Since the correct canonical tag is applied on the dot version, you should not have problems with duplicate content.

    I read that discussion several times and just can't believe it. How could coding work in such a sloppy way? When text is interpreted shouldn't special chars be escaped? Yes, I verified the canonical tag but analytics are all fragmented. This is just plain stupid.
