I just noticed that on one of my WordPress websites, the dashboard informed me that a new version of WordPress was available. But, unlike my other sites that all updated to WordPress 5.6, this update was designated WordPress 5.6-en US.

    Why the –en designation?

The -en means in English. Is that site translated or does it have a translation plugin on it?

Hi Anita, sorry for the delay in responding.

No, I'm not using a translation plugin, but my recollection was something weird happened to the website a while ago that forced me to switch to another English language (UK or Australian) and then switch back, but I don't recall the specific reason that was done.

@ravenmaniac that makes since now. The plugins will add that extension.

That's the problem. I didn't use a plugin. Instead, I simply selected [Settings] > [Site Language] and changed it there.

There must be some foreign languages lurking around, but I can't find them. I checked the wp-content>languages folder in the website directory, but it's empty.

Right. That functionality used to be in a plugin but was added directly to WordPress core.
