I have a site running New Pro v. 3.0.2 as the child theme. I would like to upgrade to v. 3.3.0. Is there an easy way to do this saving settings and minimizing down time?

Do you prep work ahead of time; check for any customizations that you've made to the theme that you may want to keep for the updated theme. Going forward, add CSS customizations to your "Additional CSS" and any functional customizations to a code snippet plugin.

I like to work with a staging site to ensure that everything is working as expected before I update a theme. All good hosting companies offer staging sites.

As Susan suggested, work on a staging first. I suggest you do the following on the staging before switching themes.

    1. Use the Widget Importer & Exporter plugin to EXPORT your current widgets to your desktop - https://wordpress.org/plugins/widget-importer-exporter/.

    2. Use the Customizer Export/Import plugin to EXPORT your Customizer settings - https://wordpress.org/plugins/customizer-export-import/.

This way you have those settings. Most times when you switch themes, those customizer settings may revert back to the default. Using these two plugins will help you import them back into the website.

If you've made direct changes to the style.css file or your functions.php file, you'll need to do some file comparisons to see where you need to reflect those in the new style.css and functions.php.
