A client purchased Education pro for their site, now the responsive navigation works 100%, but that's controlled with media queries and device width.

On tablets and laptops, you still see the desktop navigation, my question is what can one do to get the desktop navigation to behave on tap/touch events when viewing the site on a tablet or for example a laptop that has a touch screen?

That theme is very old. Version: 3.0.2 Updated: 5/20/16

    1. You could add the code for the menu from a new theme but that would require a fair amount of work.

    Or

    2. Advise the client to update to a new theme.

    Thanks Brad,

Will adding the new navigation code make the desktop navigaton touch friendly on tablets and laptops?

If its touch friendly in the theme you take the code from then yes, it should work the same in any other theme.
