Hi, I'm struggling with picking a theme for an ecommerce site and hoping someone here can make a suggestion or point me towards a few examples.
I've been tasked with building out a new site which will primarily be an ecommerce site, selling approx. 70 products across 6 distinct categories. I've previously built a site using Executive and also a basic ecommerce site using Clip Cart.
I can't seem to find a Genesis theme that I think will work well with the new site. I will use woocommerce for the cart.
I'm not sure that the Agency theme is ecommerce focused enough.
web-savvy have a few good themes, but a little too feminine. Same with pretty darn cute.
Clip cart is a little too minimalist this time round.I'm not a developer, more of a tinkerer, so I'm after theme that does most of what I need out of the box, with just a little "tinkering" under the hood to make it good to go.
Thanks.
December 30, 2013 at 7:18 am #82020AnitaCKeymasterThe key here is - "what" is going to be sold on the eCommerce site. The only thing I gather from this is that you don't want a feminine look. WooThemes - the developer of WooCommerce has specialized themes for this as well.

December 30, 2013 at 8:33 am #82041CallevaMemberThanks - a bit more info about products - it will be heating supplies (firewood, logs, gas, coal) and stoves. Plus a few other related products.
I had a look at a few other theme developers, but as I've limited dev skills and I'm used to Genesis, I was hoping to stick with a Genesis theme.

December 30, 2013 at 9:31 am #82051CallevaMemberThanks, the Going Green theme looks good. I especially like the secondary nav menu that I think could be used for different "shop" categories.
However, my main concern here is that the front page is very blog orientated. I'm looking for more of a shop front. I'm not sure if this could be changed to display things like woocommerce featured products ?December 30, 2013 at 9:33 am #82052AnitaCKeymasterYes, you can add the Shop page as your home page. That's not a problem.

December 30, 2013 at 9:34 am #82053AnitaCKeymasterYou can make the home page any page you want. You can use an existing shop page, a particular category, Featured Products, what ever. If you want to use the WooCommerce widgets, you could create a custom widgetized home page just for that.

December 30, 2013 at 10:36 am #82084CallevaMemberThanks for the info. It's definitely an option now !
But, in the meantime, I've also been looking at other stuff and stumbled across Dynamik from Cobalt Apps. Looks like it's flexible enough for me to tinker with, without getting bogged down in coding (I know I said something "out of the box", but I do like to tweak!). I'm going to have a look around to see if there are some examples of ecommerce sites using Dynamik.
December 30, 2013 at 10:56 am #82091AnitaCKeymasterI haven't tried Dynamik at all. Good luck on your project!

Dynamik will absolutely work fine with WooCommerce. I'm starting work on my first WC site that will use Dynamik (I've used WooThemes themes for that before).
I'd say that for working with WooCommerce in any theme though, a little coding will get you a long way, especially if you want to modify the default WC layout although there are some plugins on the repo that will help customize some of the WC display beyond what CSS alone can do. Just started using this one for example:
Good luck!
