    Hi guys,

Im new to Genesis and WordPress also. Have been watching a few online courses and im starting to get the picture about how to structure my project.
I've choose Genesis as the foundation for my themes, but im struggling a bit to understand the best way to use efficiently.

    Some of my doubts are:
    - If I want a custom homepage, should I just add a front-page.php file, do I loose anything in terms of Genesis features?
    - What about files such as header.php, what's the best way to approach customisation to files like this?
    - Do you know any good resources for questions like this for someone just starting to use the framework?

I have explored Studiopress' docs but i've found it a bit limited for this questions.

    Any help deeply appreciated.

    Thanks.

I would start with the Sample theme and look at the features in other SP themes which you can add in the sample theme.

You can build a unique child theme using code from any of the SP themes in the Sample theme.

Yes, create a front-page.php file which removes the loop
    No header.php needed

Genesis uses action hooks and filters rather than hacking parent theme files in a child theme.

    Thanks for the tips Brad.
I will choose a theme to buy and study it's code, maybe that can speed things up a bit.

The other resources i've already seen but will have a second look into it.

    Thanks again.

Cool, thanks. Although im still looking into ways for customising the markup in some areas while keeping Genesis functionality, for example in the header.

What do you want to do specifically in the header?

Sometimes I need to customize the markup of the header and/or include static components in there. Probably I can use hooks for the latter but I am not finding any info on how to do that.

    Please excuse the questions avalanche...

It depends on what you want to do.
