    Hi all,

    I'm creating a post template within a Genesis Child theme.
    It's just for a unique post layout (not a cpt) for certain posts with ACF (Advanced Custom fields).

    Now I created this theme once already using Beaver Theme (using the same approach). But decided to do again with Genesis. But using the Beaver Theme as the basis, I was able to include things like the Author Display Name and the Post Date by using WordPress template tags, as you'd expect:

    <?php the_author(); ?>
    <?php the_date(); ?>
    <?php the_tags( '<ul class="tag-bar"><li>', '</li><li>', '</li></ul>' ); ?>

    But none of these WordPress template tags are working in my Genesis post template.
    I cannot figure out what I'm missing.
    Admittedly, my knowledge of php is entry-level.
    But I did get this working very easily when using the Beaver Theme.

    Just not sure what the trick is with Genesis to makes it so these WordPress template tags work?

    Here's the basic outline of my Genesis post template.

    get_header
    <!-- custom content via ACF fields in the post-->
    <!-- wordpress template tags for author, date, post tags -->
    get_footer

    Any tips, insight is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Thanks for that tip Brad. I was delighted to see your name on the response being that I have already learned a lot from you at wpsites.net

    Your tip was helpful in pointing me in the right direction.

    But does this mean Genesis does not allow us to use standard WordPress template tags in child themes? We need to use the appropriate Genesis counterpart to access those standard WordPress functions?

    That would explain a WHOLE lot for me. lol

    Update: By placing the_post(); rewind_posts(); at the top of my post template, I'm able to include standard WP template tags, without the need to re-write Genesis shortcode functions.
