I've been working in the back end and find I get inconsistent results if I modify, say, the Menu directly from the Menu link in the main WordPress menu, the Menu link under Appearance, and the Menu link inside Customize. Is it that Customize is really the only safe place to make changes to this or other SP child themes?

If so, are the conditions in which I should be using the others?

I carefully saved to make sure it wasn't a failure to save that causes the problems.

Or is it just that there are only certain ways you should visit your site while working on it? If I use the link in top menu in WP, it takes me to a different unmodified version than if I look at the site inside Customize.

    thanks!

Hi there! I'm sorry you are getting that result. Your site is in maintenance mode. Can you provide the Genesis version number you are using?

One more thing, when you are in the Customizer, are you Publishing the changes? If you click the little screw at the top, open that and make sure you are not saving your changes in Draft mode.

    Hey Anita,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. 🙂

    I'm using Genesis 2.6.1.

Ah! Yes! I was saving drafts in Customizer, not Publish. I just changed that. Should that resolve the inconsistencies? Or are there other factors?

And should I only work in Customize? Or only under certain conditions?

I think from here, test out both methods. They should work the same way now. If they don't then this would really be more of a WordPress issue and you could post on the WordPress support forum.
