I'm having a slight problem with the Genesis Simple Sidebars plugin. It works perfectly, except for one page.

I've created a sidebar that I want to show up on all posts and it does--all except for the Posts page that one selects in Settings->Reading; i.e., the one that is generated automatically. I do have the Primary Sidebar on that page set to "Blog Sidebar" but it doesn't make any difference; the default sidebar still shows.

    Any advice?

    Thank you!

    Hi,
That was intriguing. I just replicated your problem. I have an easy workaround, though. The normal way to do this, and it's standard in the test content that comes with Genesis, is to do this: Make a Page called Blog (or whatever appropriate name you'd like). You don't even need content on the page necessarily - just go down to the right and under Template choose Blog. Then choose your sidebar, and Save.

That's it, then you don't need to even bother with the Settings... Reading bit, so unselect the Post page there. Just stick your new page into your menu wherever you want it, and you're done.

    Thanks Dave!

What was tripping me up was not selecting Blog as the template. It seems like all three of those things--correct template, correct sidebar, and unselected Settings->Reading option need to be in place before the excerpts show up with the correct sidebar! I have them now. Thanks again.

    Keith,
    Glad that worked!

It is complex! I would have thought that what you did should work, but apparently that sequence wasn't accounted for in the plugin code - it must travel a different route, maybe by using default WordPress processing rather than any custom templates.

It shows the flexibility of WordPress in a way. Many non-Genesis themes don't have a custom blog template to choose like that.

And if you use Woo Commerce with Genesis and have the Genesis Connect Plugin working to help that, those things have a little contention with Genesis Simple Sidebars, which I had to investigate and solve - just an FYI! Last FYI - sometimes the gang here will refer you to the WordPress forum to get help with Genesis Simple Sidebars.

    Cheers, Dave

Ah, well it turns out that I am! So maybe that was a contributor as well. I'm using the Ayoshop theme, which has been very good so far--although, yes, I've had to be resourceful a few times!

    Thanks again.

    You're welcome.
