I have a client site that needs some columns setup. So I've been using the Column Class using Div's. Unfortunately when the client started updating (in Visual mode) it became a mess.

    Thoughts?
    1) I could force them into Text mode, but this may be difficult for new or non-coders
    2) Could us a plugin, but would do this as a last resort. They seem to occasionally break

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks for the help! Dan

Depending on where and how widespread these columns are, you could use widgets, maybe.

I've had success using Advanced Custom Fields: https://wordpress.org/plugins/advanced-custom-fields/

I build the page with divs then enter the form values where they're to display. Client just edits by changing form fields, and they do not touch the editing window.

I know you don't want a plugin, but Genesis Easy Columns is really nice and easy to use

Ditto - https://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-easy-columns/ is great (adds column shortcodes to visual editor).

Or consider premium plugin - Beaver Builder - for "front end" column editing.
