I started working on my website's SEO a few weeks back, added in Yoast SEO, started adding content, etc. The goal was to take my page's search results from where they were (page 5 or so when Googling Dallas Doodle breeders) to page 1. So, tons of hours later, my page is now not even in the first ten pages of search results. I've claimed the page on Google, uploaded site maps, done what Google says to do, but my search results are not getting any better. Is this a Yoast problem? Theme/Genesis issue? I'm going insane here... especially considering another website I run has literally zero SEO and it is the top hit for its search words.

    Problem website is http://regaldoodles.com.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello,
You should start SEO for keywords that you have on this site.

I'm not sure what you mean. I've already plugged in keywords into Yoast.

Yoast's plugin is a tool to be used, not a complete solution for ranking. There is much more required to be successful at SEO beyond inserting keywords into any plugin.

Without going too far into the details, there is almost no effective SEO being employed on regaldoodles.com. In particular, there is a lack of content throughout the site, and, the content that exists does not show any evidence of being optimized for a commercial keyword. The Title tag has no keywords in it, nor does the meta description tag. There does not appear to be an H1 tag on the site either.

    What To Do
First, you should consider what keywords produce sufficient volume of searches to be worth the effort that SEO entails. Hopefully the keywords you choose will correspond to the product you are attempting to market!

    Examples:
doodle breeders - has only about 140 searches per month - very low considering that is the traffic for the entire U.S.
dallas doodle breeders - has no measureable search traffic at all

Contrast the above with these product-specific keyword phrases:
goldendoodle - 135,000 searches per month
    golden doodle - 33,100 spm
    goldendoodle puppies - 22,200 spm
golden doodle puppies - 1,600 spm

Adding location to a keyword phrase that is also product specific might be the best, assuming that you are courting local buyers:
goldendoodle dallas - 590 searches per month

Once you have chosen a keyword market, there are a number of things remaining that should be done to improve your website's organic rankings.
