    This is a very amateur question, I feel. But how in the world do you get to the head section so you can include webfonts and google webmaster tools etc? I went to Genesis > theme settings> and towards the bottom is an area where you can put header and footer scripts. But each time I try to add additional code, the code I previously included is gone and those functions don't work. i.e. I have a webfont, put the code in that section, save it. Go to add G webmaster tools and neither one works now. What am I missing here?

    Use wp_enqueue_scripts in your functions file.

    //* Enqueue scripts and styles
    add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'enqueue_scripts_styles' );
    function enqueue_scripts_styles() {
    	wp_enqueue_style( 'parallax-google-fonts', '//fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Montserrat|Sorts+Mill+Goudy', array(), CHILD_THEME_VERSION );
    }

    You can also hook into wp_head but not for scripts or webfonts.
