    Hello,

I am wondering how to remove (hide) comments made by oneself (blog author) as well as removing/hiding trackbacks.

I do not want either of these two to show up in the footer where I have placed the widget, it looks bad.

How do I go about doing this?

Here's a link to show you what I mean. Check the bottom left footer.

    bump.

    Anyone know how?

    PS:
I know it is possible to edit the visibility of the widget, but as far as I know that doesn't take into account comments/trackbacks, but only the entire widget from showing or not. And I don't want o remove the widget, just my own comments and trackbacks.

Which comments widget are you using? I don't recall trackbacks being included by default, which is odd.

Not sure I've ever seen anything that allows you to hide your own comments without writing some code... on my sites, with multiple authors, that would be crazy 🙂

    It's just called "Recent Comments"

I would assume it is the standard widget by wordpress.

It's strange, because you rarely see popular blogs that show their own comments/trackbacks - it makes it look bad when you mass respond to comments because then the "recent comments" is flooded and shows only your answers.

I don't think I've ever used the default Recent Comments, without help. I'm currently using something called WP Recent Comments with Avatars bceause Get Recent Comments hadn't been updated in forever.

From what I've seen on the popular sites I frequent, many don't display comments on the sidebar anymore (because they've switched to Disqus or Livefyre?), but on some that still do, they do include the comments from the article authors because they are part of the conversation their articles generated... but those authors also aren't responding to every single comment posted.

And for me, using both Get Recent Comments and WP Recent Comments with Avatars, trackbacks aren't displayed in the Recent Comments widget.

I think if you switch to one of the comments plugins that displays part or all of the actual comment, instead of just what article was commented on, you'll find that you won't mind seeing your comments in there so much 🙂

This one I've used in the past: http://wordpress.org/plugins/bwp-recent-comments/

But this is the one I'm using more often now: http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-recent-comments-with-avatars/

They just change what's displayed in the Recent Comments widget, providing better info.
