How do I redirect old html pages to the new pages? For instance, I need an old link.html to redirect to a new WP page. I tried using the Redirection plugin, but it doesn't seem to be working. What is the best way?

The Redirection plugin is probably one of the best solutions.

    What isn't working for you?

It just doesn't redirect the links... I enter in the Source URL and the Target URL and press OK, and it saves it, but when I test it to see if it redirects, it doesn't work.

Can you provide some details, such as: your site, your WP version, your Redirection version (if it's something other than the latest), and the exact source and target URL's you're using?  There is the "missing argument 2" notice since WP 3.5 came out, but Redirection does work in WP 3.5.

Are you using relative URL's in the Redirection group WITHOUT a checkmark in the Regex box to return a 301 status or something else?

Sandra, I am not a techy or anything, but have been review this type of plugin. This one says that it is 3.5 compatible. Maybe switch out your plugin and try this one that works via custom field - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/redirect-by-custom-field/. I checked their Support tab and I don't see anyone reporting issues with it yet.

@anitac - The plugin you mentioned uses a custom field in a post or page for the redirection.  Therefore, it can only redirect something that is a post or page.  In other words, it can't redirect a lot of other things that don't use custom fields, such as an image link, uploaded file (eg, a PDF), author, tag, or category archive.  It also doesn't say that it supports "regex" or regular expressions, which would allow you to create a template to redirect a lot of posts if some of the elements of the URL remain the same.  The Redirection plugin does support all of that.  Unfortunately, there isn't an easy way to exchange the redirects from 1 plugin to another, so the plugin you mentioned is probably only a good choice if one has needs limited to redirecting a few posts or pages.

Do you know if you are on an Apache server? If you are you can do an .htaccess redirect. Other server types offer other solutions. Some have a built in control panel redirection you can use to easily build your redirects. You may want to ask your host which solution is best for your server.

Thanks everyone for your responses... I ended up just editing the .htaccess folder instead since I couldn't figure it out and that worked for me, so everything's good now!
