    Hello I'm looking to get started with the genesis framework and creating my first website but I'm unsure on what which child theme to choose. We are looking to create site similar to this one magoosh.com (expect with a white background on the menu). Any recommendations?

    You may want to take a look at my latest business theme Simples http://llamapress.com/demos/?theme=Simples, there doesn't seem to be anything on the site you linked to that you cant accomplish with Simples.
    If Simples is not for you, I would suggest doing a filter on the StudioPress themes and looking through the "Business" category.

    Thanks James for the advice the simples theme looks great, where can I find more information and documentation on how to edit certain things for the theme? And do I need to use the plugins to make site look like it does on the demo? I would like to avoid using any plugins if possible.

    No problem gemmasantos.
    After registering for a membership you will have access to a members area that has a documentation section. The documentation covers my themes in general and I am currently working on more detailed, theme specific documentation for each theme. You would also have access to support (basic or VIP depending on your membership) where I would be more than happy to help you out.
    As for plugins, there are recommended and required plugins. To get your site looking exactly like my theme demo yes you will need to install all the plugins that are recommended to you on theme activation. There is one required plugin, the rest are recommended, the required plugin is needed. I have built all the themes like this for a number of reasons, one of the big ones being that if you were to change theme somewhere down the line, you would still be able to keep all the extended functionality for example custom post types, but with themes that have have a ton of functionality built directly in the theme files, this would not be the case.
