This might be better asked elsewhere, but since I'm not a paying WooCommerce customer, I'm not entitled to their support...

I have a client who would like the option to display their WooCommerce products on the shop pages at different sizes, depending on the category.

For example, she would like square size images for displaying one category of product, but portrait layout images for another category.

Is there a plugin which enables this?

I remember looking high and low for something like this and I couldn't find anything.

Then I decided that I would turn off the hard crop on my image settings for Woocommerce and let them display as they are, without any cropping. If the image that I upload is square it will be square, if it's a portrait, it will be long and tall, and if it's a landscape, it will be wide and short. The images are whatever they are. In the catalog display, I use masonry to create the grid or use hard crops on the related and catalog grids.

It's the only thing that I could think of actually puts the shop keeper in control because most of the time the image they have of their products are already the way they want them, removing the hard crop works best for me.

Hi, @carasmo - that's what I thought would by my best option - I just hate seeing messy image sizes myself, so didn't want to suggest that as the best option for the client, but in the absence of a better solution, I'll let her know this (I already told her I wasn't sure that it could be done, but that I would see what I could find...)

I spent some time on this and the easiest way to change the image size is to use CSS.

You can grab the class for each category from the body classes and use it with the CSS for the image.

The only problem is, the thumbnail image may not fit in the container which includes the button and background therefore a PHP solution would be better. I couldn't find any code for this so would need to dig into WooCommerce to find the hook. Then you could either, filter the image size or remove and then add back another size conditionally or in a custom template for each category. Bit of time involved to work this out.

WooCommerce is a big plugin with 275 hooks!
