I'm looking to have pages where I can query new results, without reloading the page. I currently know nothing about this, but am about to dive into reading about it, learning what I can, and attempting an implementation. Here is my situation / needs:

    I'll have the following information:

    Venue Types:

    -Bars
    -Dining
    -Lodging

    Other Information:

    -Takeout
    -Delivery
    -Dine In
    -Has pool tables
    -???

The primary categories will have sub-categories (for example, dining will have restaurants, diners, delis, street vendors, etc). Many of these places will have food, despite not being strictly a dining location.

I want to be able to filter something like so:

    -Restaurants, take out or delivery.
    -Bars, with dine in food.
    -Hotels and Bed and Breakfasts

My primary categories are a custom post type of Venues, and the rest of the information is stored using Advanced Custom Fields. I can query the data just fine, my question is how to query this data on a page, without reloading, and how to visually present the option (checkbox, dropdown, etc). If anyone could help me with this, I would be extremely grateful!

I'd suggest taking a look at some of the advanced search plugins such as FacetWP or SearchWP - those are likely your best bet for Ajax search filters.

I'll definitely check them out and look through the code if I can, but I'm looking for a non-plugin approach, unless it's very lightweight. I don't like relying on 3rd party tech, so I've programmed a lot myself thus far, this is just a bit out of my comfort zone.

Thanks for the suggestions, and let me know if you have any other related material!
