Prose theme, code to extend content margins to full-screen width

Hi, all - I know nothing of code, where I would go to find a piece of code, where I would put it on my site, and how I would troubleshoot the snafus that would inevitably ensue if I tried to do this by myself. I have two questions:
1) Is it even possible to eliminate the blank side spaces on either side of a Genesis/Prose theme page?.. as in, expanding the content margins to full-screen width? If not, will someone please put me out of my misery and tell me to quit looking?
2) If it is possible, would someone please tell me how to find a person to hire to do it for me?
I am so frustrated by this domain creating process that I've been near tears more than once. Many thanks for y'all's patience with my ignorance.

Hi Laura,

Sorry you're frustrated! I can tell you've been working on this for awhile - you sound like one of those people who has reached the end of your WordPress rope for the day.

Some people find Prose easier to use than other Genesis child themes, but personally I can't stand using it. One of its limitations is the inability to change from a fixed width to a full width theme - it's possible, but it's anything but easy. I develop Genesis sites full time and it would be cheaper for someone hire me to do an entire site from scratch than to hire me to force Prose to be full width.

Three options I would recommend:

(1) Accept the site's fate as a fixed width site.
(2) Change to a full width child theme (though you'd lose the options panel in Prose).
(3) Look at the Dynamik theme from Cobalt Apps - all the goodness of Prose but with many, many more options, including the ability to create a full width site.

Of course there's always option 4 - hire someone, but I can promise you wouldn't like the pricing.

I feel like I'm bringing gloom and doom but I promise I'm trying to help you save your sanity!

Grr! I just started using Genesis and Prose today. Is there any kind of refund policy? I purchased Prose specifically because in the showcase gallery it shows websites that appear to have no margin on either side.

Why is this site featured if it's impossible to actually accomplish this look!?! Does anyone know if I trade themes now that I've been advised this look isn't actually possible?

You could open a support ticket to ask about a refund. It's possible to create a site with no margins using Prose, but as I mentioned above, it requires a developer because it's very time-consuming and requires extensive knowledge of CSS. Keep in mind that all the sites in the showcase were created by professionals - they aren't necessarily advertised as something anyone can do out of the box.

I know that's not helpful to hear and I'm sorry you had a bad experience. :/
