I have been asked to update a site built in 2012 using Genesis 1.8 and News theme. I've not used Genesis before.

Assuming I want to stick with Genesis I'll want to upgrade the framework to the latest version and add a responsive child theme to that. Am I correct to assume that I'll need to buy a new copy of the framework?

Based on what I've read here I plan to:
    -backup the site,
    -rename the existing genesis folder,
-FTP in the new framework files,
-install the child theme in the usual WP way.

Is there anything else I should do, or any Gotchas! that new users tend to miss?
    Any advice or comments appreciated.

    Hi,

there is no need to buy a new license for the framework. As long as the person you are upgrading the site for owns a license/has a login for their Studiopress account, they can get the updated mobile responsive version of the theme, the news pro theme, and the updated version of the framework for no additional cost.

Thanks for the reply Christoph. I'll get them to have a search for old account details...
