    Hello,

I have been unable to successfully move a Genseis website built in a folder (see http://www.sarahpowers.com/new/) to its root directory.

After moving the files, re-saving the permalinks, and recreating htaccess, some of the links resolved properly, while others resulted in a 404 Error page (although the URL no longer indicated the "new" directory and all data had been moved to root).

When I tried to Search and Replace the paths in the database, it ended up corrupting the entire WP system/database (e.g. the widgets became unavailable in the WP admin interface and all pages, regardless of URL, displayed an incomplete Home page).

I repeated the process three times, starting off with a properly working site in the "new", and ended up with the same result each time.

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Conny

Hm, more of a WordPress question than Genesis. I did that myself, but it was a bit ago. Are you following the instructions from here? http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#On_Your_Existing_Server

    Hi Lauren,

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, I also posted on the WordPress forum looking for help.

I found some information about data serialization and using this tool https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/ to prevent it. I am wondering if that is my problem and will give it a try.

    Thanks again.

@sundara, did you go through each separate step in the codex link that Lauren posted?

It could be as simple as this one:

    13. If your theme supports menus, links to your home page may still have the old subdirectory embedded in them. Go to Appearance::Menus and update them.

    Hello again,

The problem with my site was with data serialization as mentioned above and has now been resolved.

Thank you both for your assistance.
