    This really should be simple, I think, but it is driving me crazy nonetheless.

    I want to use the [portfolio] shortcode to create some pages that filter portfolio items in different ways. But I can't get the shortcode to work.

    I did this in the 'text' editor, there are no <p>s or anything, it is clean.

    There really are portfolio projects populating this: http://mwiseinfo.com/fci/portfolio/
    - they all have the type 'testtype'

    What no-brainer thing am I missing? My sanity thanks you in advance.

    Portfolio shortcode for what exactly?

    Are you referring to the use of a plugin?

    I see that you are using the Executive Pro Theme. There is no portfolio shortcode associated with this theme. Are you using a plugin to create the shortcode, or did you create the shortcode yourself?

    Please bear with me if I don't answer your question exactly.

    It's the portfolio functionality that was installed with WordPress.

    Yes, I should have said that I'm Using Exec Pro. So, dumb question here, any shortcodes that are part of wordpress (https://en.support.wordpress.com/shortcodes/) don't work in the child theme? I haven't dug into the php yet, brand new to genesis.

    Oh crud. So I see that all the portfolio shortcode documentation I have been looking at is for wordpress.COM. They should have different colored branding or something. I will go try to make something or find something.. Any leads would be very much appreciated! And thank you for your time 🙂

    No problem. The difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com can be confusing. You sometimes land on the wrong site when looking for information.

    The Executive Pro theme will automatically render the portfolio items via the archive post type template - http://www.yoursite.com/portfolio

    You only need a shortcode if you are trying to pull the portfolio items into a standard page and/or manipulate the output in certain ways. In which case you could create a custom shortcode that renders a custom query. You can also manipulate the display via the archive templates.
