I have tried to create a portfolio page in the minimum theme. After I create it and try to view I am getting a 404 error.

I have read a few different threads in the forum but can't figure out why this page would not be showing up.

Hello, I'm not sure if this will help, but sometimes resaving your permalink settings will resolve these kind of issues. Might be worth a try if you haven't already setting > permalinks > save changes.
