A friend makes and sells handcrafted items. There are 3 categories with about 4 products in each. Is there a best way to set it up? Should each be a separate page? Should posts be used for the products? Looking for best-practice advice on structure to avoid bad choices at the out-go.

What kind of site will this be - ecommerce or simply informational?

Ideally, each item will have its own page. However, you probably need to group them in some way to get visitors from a landing page/homepage.

I think the best thing to do is to find a comparable site and see how they've done it. Will provide you with some insight and a plan going forward. As long as you have a vision for how your site will look, there will then be numerous ways to actually put it together.
