MemberI've set up my new Outreach theme and am trying to decide how well the Genesis Responsive Slider is going to work for me.
I currently have it set up where recent posts are displayed in the slider. I like the look of the large slider, but I know it will be a challenge to find images that large for every post.
I do have the option of setting the slider to display a page rather than a post, correct? If I were to do that, where's the best place to set up access to posts?

MemberI don't know how that answers the question of the Genesis Responsive Slider. I'm having a similar issue, within the widget's setting there are options for the type of content (posts or page), but options for" By Taxonomy and Terms" are the exact same for pages and posts. How do select the exact pages we want?

MemberI found a post on another site that helped me with the pages vs. posts issue and I've changed my slider to display pages instead of posts. I was also confused by the taxonomy and terms, and didn't really mess with it. I wanted to set mine to display only one page for now, because I don't have a lot of images on hand that fit the full width of the slider. So, for the time being I got an image that would work for a Welcome page and set the slider for only that page. But you could easily include additional pages with the settings I'll list here. Here's what I did:
Set Type of Content to pages.
Skipped the two taxonomy fields
Skipped the category, tag, taxonomy to exclude field
On the "choose include/exclude" field, I set it to "include"
Listed the one page ID I wanted to use, then set number of slides to show at 1
One thing that also had me stumped was the page ID -- I had no idea where to find that because this is the first occasion I've had to need it. Just in case you also don't know how to find it, go to your All Pages screen. Hover your pointer over a page title (don't click). Look on the lower left of your screen, and there's a gray box that appears when you hover over the title. It will have the URL, then some other characters after it. There will be a number that follows "post=" and that's your page ID. Simple once you know what to look for.

Participant@dkrause, thank you for taking the time to come back and explain how you resolved this. I too didn't know that you have to display pages. I had it on posts and it never worked.

MemberGlad I could pass on what I learned. I have tried it with posts as well, and it worked for me. Just set the type of content to posts, then followed the other steps but entered post IDs instead of page IDs. Right now I'm sticking with pages because I don't have images wide enough to go with my posts. This is my happy medium for the moment!

Participant@dkrause, sorry to bother you here. I had a post at http://www.studiopress.community/topic/top-and-bottom-nav-bar-setup-in-outreach-theme/and I have not received any reply and I am hoping you can help. I visited your website and it has exactly what I am looking for. I need to know how to set the two top nav bars. I installed the xml file hoping to have this feature ready and just for me to fill in the blank but no luck.
I will appreciate your help in this regard.

MemberHi @h2ofilters -- I'm laughing as I post this, because I feel like the least qualified to help anyone. 🙂 I'm more than happy to walk you through how I set mine up, though.
1. To have the search box appear in the colored navigation bar, from the Dashboard, go to Genesis>Theme Settings. Scroll down to the Navigation box, then choose what you want for "Enable Extras on Right Side". There are several options here.
2. To set up your navigation, go to Appearance>Menus. For the colored horizontal bar, set up your Main menu. This is where you choose which pages you want to appear in this navigation, and to set their order. When you get to the Menus page, you should see a tab in the center section that's labeled "Main" -- click on it to start setting up the menu. Now go to the left side and scroll down to the Pages box. Click on "View All". Check the pages you want to list in the navigation (the colored bar), then click "Add to Menu". You should see bars -- like widgets -- appear in the center section. Now, just drag and drop them in the order you want them appear (top to bottom here equals left to right on the nav bar). Any page you indent below another page will show up as a dropdown, so if you want them all to display in the nav bar, keep them lined up vertically. If you want to add pages as dropdowns beneath a main page, follow the steps to add pages to the menu, then drag the new page beneath the main page and move it over to the right a little so that it's indented. There's a separate step if you want to put a heading in the colored navigation bar which will have dropdowns beneath it but you don't the heading to actually be a page. Let me know if you need to know about that.
Remember to Save Menu to apply your changes.
Now, go to the left of this center area to Theme Location and choose "Main" (or whatever you named this menu you just created) for the Primary Navigation.
Notice at the top of that center section where you inserted the pages -- "Automatically add new top level pages". If you check this, any new page you create will automatically be added to that navigation. So leave it unchecked if you want to add things manually.
2. To add the menu items to the upper part of the header (where I have Home/About/Contact), you'll just create a second menu. Next to the tab labeled "Main", click on the tab with the plus sign to create a new menu and give it a name. I named mine "Top Nav". Now repeat the steps you did with the first menu by choosing the pages you want to appear there and drag them over to the menu. Remember to Save it.
I don't believe you need to do anything else; this second menu should show up automatically in your Outreach theme. Don't assign this to the Secondary navigation (theme location), because that navigation is actually below the one in the colored horizontal bar.
Feel free to let me know if any of this doesn't work or you have more questions.

Participant@dkrause, well you did well on your website and that makes you more experienced that me. I am building the site locally so I am unable to post it. I followed your the steps and all is okay now. The demo makes it look it easy but it takes some work to get there.
Thank you very much and I appreciate your time. I will keep checking your website to see what I can glean from it.
