I have built a directory site, based on the old Lifestyle theme. I have a number of categories for different trades and also for advertising listings. I created a number of category pages using custom fields, name: query args, value: cat=40&orderby=title&order=ASC This gave me a list of all posts in category 40 listed alphabetically. I would further like to order the posts by their appearance in another category. So for example if there are 4 advertising categories with ID's,12,11,10,190 I would like the order the list of posts so that posts in category 12 list alphabetically first, next come posts in category 11, then 10, then 190, i.e. each category lists the posts in alphabetical order and in order of category 12 first, 11 second, 10 third and 190 last, for the category page of posts in category 40.

I tried this: cat=40&orderby=in_category( array( 12,11,10,190 ) )&order=ASC but that gave me the order correctly with date from first to last.  Any ideas?

As I have about a thousand of these, it would be great if I could include in the functions file a filter that could say something like: If in_category (array(list of categories) sort by 'Platinum','Gold','Silver','Bronze')&order alphabetically.

    Thank you in advance.
