    Hi,

    Currently footer has 6 spots as a 'widget area' making the content too thin.

    How do I go about editing that area so it only uses 4 spots making the content a little wider?

    Hi,

    in the functions.php find the following code:

    //* Add support for 6-column footer widgets
    add_theme_support( 'genesis-footer-widgets', 6 );

    Change the , 6 to , 4

    After that, change the width around line 1559 of the style.css

    .footer-widgets-1, .footer-widgets-2, .footer-widgets-3, .footer-widgets-4, .footer-widgets-5, .footer-widgets-6 {
        width: 160px;
    }

    to a value to your liking.

    Thanks. It worked for desktop.

    Are there different settings for mobile? The iPad still shows them as thin and far to the left.

    Yes, there are different settings for mobile devices. They are called media queries.
    You will have to adjust the width for the footer-widgets in the media queries, too, if it doesn't look like you want it.
