MemberHi there - I am very new to this but itching to get going. Unfortunately, having downloaded and zipped up the Genesis framework, sample and balance theme and then going to the WordPress dashboard and plug in, it is just not installing. I am on a MacBook Air and really appreciate any help on this. Thank you!

MemberThanks so much. With your post instructions I have now managed to install the genesis and the balance themes but alas, it is still not working because it says there is no parent theme installed. I thought that was the genesis zip file. When I purchased from Studiopress, I bought the theme and framework - agh!

MemberUpdate is that Genesis is installed but Balance isn't. Will keep trying things out.

MemberMake sure when you unzip the files, they're not unzipping inside a nested folder. That is, inside your wp-content/themes folder, you should have a folder called genesis and a folder for your child theme, balance.
Inside the genesis folder, you should see /images and /lib folder and then your pages (404,php, comments.php, functions.php, and so forth.) If you have a genesis folder inside the genesis folder and then all these files inside THAT, your unzip program created another folder for the contents of the zip...
Same goes for your /balance folder. Make sure the files are located in wp-content/themes/balance, and not wp-content/themes/balance/BALANCE.

MemberThanks so much for your help David but this is not the problem…
It would seem that I have installed balance as the child theme but it is not supported because I do not have the parent theme installed and yet it told me it had installed, it is showing up on the theme page as active and on the dashboard home page it says:
WordPress 4.0 running Genesis theme.
I am at a total loss about what to do here and don't really want to get my site live as it is in a mess but will do it anyway and post a link to show….

MemberHave you tried re-uploading the parent Genesis theme? I would just re-add both the parent and child via FTP to see if that fixes it.
