ParticipantI'm a writer and have the Parallax Pro theme installed. I'm not a web designer, so I might not be using it right. This is not a knock on the theme. I recently did a little test (non-scientific) on whether desktop/tablet users took advantage of a freebie more than mobile users. The results told me my website does not work well for mobile. 89% of my visitors are on mobile, yet only 17% took advantage of the freebie compared to 73% desktop).
What theme would you recommend for better mobile engagement? My priorities are:
1) Books Page: Using a plugin called MyBookTable to display books (it centralizes links, prices, etc)
2) Offer "try the first book free"
3) Home page that is makes them want to click on the books link
4) Make the author sound good (hard as that might be)OR -- am I using Parallax Pro wrong? Any graphic I put on the home page never scales down for mobile. My site is http://seeleyjames.com

ParticipantYou could replace the desktop image on mobiles only with another image.
I don't think your theme is causing the problem. I think desktop users are more likely to take action compared to mobile users because it's easier to sign up for a free download on desktops.

Keymaster@seeleyjames I always instruct my clients to look at their Google Analytics (maybe for a year and also the last 6 months) to see where their site visitors are coming from and start to build your website in the best way possible for them. So if you see in your reports that visitors are coming from mostly "desktop" optimize the site in the best way for "desktop viewing". If you see that your visitors are coming mostly from "mobile devices", then optimize the site for them.
For "Try the book free" - is that some sort of download that goes into a Reader, such as Kindle or book readers? Or is it a PDF file of the book? How would the person downloading it actually open the file to read it?

ParticipantBraddalto, Thanks for your reply.I'm not seeing a mobile only option on my theme. It has a 1600x1050 image that remains static in size on mobile. That leaves the mobile user seeing only a sliver down the middle. That's why I think I need a different theme.
Anita, thanks. That's where I got my stats, 89% mobile. Yes, the free book is downloaded by the user to any Ereader app like Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo, etc.

KeymasterI would think then either switch to a theme that doesn't require full width, or... custom code in a second image that would be visible only on mobile devices at a media query that best suits those devices, i.e., if on this size device... use this image, if on this size device... use the alternate image.
