I'm just finishing setup for my church. I really loved the look of Outreach 2.0 so I did very little to change the look. The cool stuff is all "under the hood"

For example, there is a "Ministries" custom post type with a taxonomy for the type of ministry and a taxonomy for "ministry tags" to help sort and organize things. There are also some custom fields which get parse and placed to the right like a sidebar.

There is a similar post type with different taxonomies and custom. One of the custom fields is placed in the right sidebar of the editor and looks just like a taxonomy but is linked to the ministries post type.

I've tried to make sure the "important" information is readily available. So you can find the contact info and service times on the front page and a more detailed contact page on it's own page.

Mostly we use a Facebook page for the internal church stuff, so this is mostly for potential visitors. I am still trying to track down pictures of people in the church

    LOL

Nice site, Nick, and as you said, it's easy to navigate; so many church sites try to do too much on their front page, and it becomes almost impossible to navigate.

That's nice Nick. I especially like when I click Ministries how you have the time, etc., next to each one and when you click a header they have there own sidebar. That's pretty cool. Does the theme do that naturally or did you create that especially for your church?

    Anitac,

Thanks. That is one of the few things you can see on the front end that I did. 90% of the custom stuff I did is to make a dashboard experience that the church secretary can comfortably use. Dates for events have a calendar function so she doesn't have to use special formats and there are custom fields for everything that get checked before outputting. I also interlocked taxonomies and post types so you can get to different places you might want.

For example, if you view the Prayer ministry right now it will show the event for that ministry after it

All of that is custom, but 95% of the CSS is exactly Outreach 2.0. I just really like the look of the theme.

The other cool part is I put all of that functionality into core plugins for the site so if I decide I like another theme or get time to build a custom theme in the future I just flip the switch on the new theme. I don't have to figure out what PHP is mine and what is for Outreach. Everything in the Outreach php files has been left alone.

I really have to learn all this stuff. I have a site I am working on where they want to go paperless for meetings. There's 5 meetings and the secretary will need to create a new meeting date, add the agenda and then attach the PDFs to that particular meeting. Then they can view them on their tablets. However, I haven't figured out how to do it - but looking at what you did for the church let's me know it can be done.

Ah, church secretaries... you gotta love 'em. 😉

On this page is "Children’s Church and Nursery" supposed to be off to the right instead of left aligned? Looks off on Chrome Mac

Thanks, I added the extra links in yesterday and it must have caused a tiny difference in alignment. Clear break fixed it.

yes you can. For help on adding it please start a new thread instead of adding onto a thread in the showcase and feedback forum. Thanks.

Love what you've done. I've used this theme for my church as well but done totally different things with it. Have just been teaching another member of the church how to use it so they have a backup person for times I might be on leave.
